Mike McNaughton, CFP®, CLU®, CLTC, AIF®
CEO & Founder
I founded OakWood Financial Services in 1999 because I felt strongly about helping my clients transition into retirement and enjoy financial independence without being limited to a set of proprietary products. I believe it’s critical that I have the liberty to craft individualized plans built on investment strategies that are unique to each client’s goals.
My wife, Melissa, and I make our home in Penfield, NY, where we’re empty nesters. My love/hate relationship with golf is now back in full swing with the newly found time on my hands. I enjoy traveling, camping, and spending time with my family.

Dan Schmitz, CFP®, AIF®, CLTC
President & Founder
I’m a founding partner of OakWood Financial Services. I work with clients to customize plans for their individual short- and long-term goals. My approach is distinguished by my in-depth understanding of risk management and asset allocation techniques. I communicate complicated planning techniques in a way that my clients can understand and put into action.
My wife, Carmelanne, and I embrace and love all the excitement that comes with raising our four children in West Henrietta, NY. When I’m not at work, I’m usually on the sidelines spectating or coaching one of my kids' lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, or baseball games. I stay busy in my community by volunteering at my children’s schools and sports programs. I remain true to my roots and love being outdoors or in my pick-up truck, generally listening to country music.

*Forbes’ Best-In-State Wealth Advisors (2022). Data provided by SHOOK® Research, LLC., as of 6/30/21. Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisors ranking was developed by SHOOK Research and is based on in-person, virtual, and telephone due diligence meetings to measure best practices; also considered are client retention, industry experience, credentials, review of compliance records, firm nominations; and quantitative criteria, such as: assets under management and revenue generated for their firms. Investment performance is not a criterion because client objectives and risk tolerances vary, and advisors rarely have audited performance reports. Overall, 34,925 advisors were considered, and 6,585 (18.8 percent of candidates) were recognized. This recognition and the due-diligence process conducted are not indicative of the advisor's future performance. Your experience may vary. Winners are organized and ranked by state. Some states may have more advisors than others. You are encouraged to conduct your own research to determine if the advisor is right for you. SHOOK does not receive a fee in exchange for rankings. The full methodology that Forbes developed in partnership with SHOOK Research is available here.
